Our Parking Services team want additional passionate, positive, and highly motivated people to join them as Parking Officers. Wellington City Council serves the residents and businesses of Wellington, and the Parking Services team play their part by supporting Wellington City Council's transport vision and long -term plan, parking policies, and by-laws. An effective parking system sees the safe movement of vehicles through the city, and parking turnover that assists people to get where they want to go. As a Parking Officer, you will promote compliance with city parking regulations and manage the turnover of parking space, while facilitating the safe movement of people and goods within Wellington City.

Our Parking Officers engage with the public on a regular basis and spend most of their time outdoors in and around the city. On any given day you can cover up to 20km of city streets and parking areas. Yes - it can be challenging at times, but it will be well worth it; everyone loves knowing that they are contributing to something positive and that is exactly how you will feel in this job. In this dynamic job you will:

  • Be the "face" of Wellington City Council
  • Use your customer service skills to promote positive public relations
  • Help to keep Wellington moving
  • Enable access for all to our City
  • Actively issue infringements to non-compliant vehicles
  • Ensure your assigned area is monitored effectively.

This is a permanent (up to 40 hours/week) role and you will be required to work on a rotating roster of varying start/finish times (between 6.30am - 10.30pm) including some Friday late shifts and weekend shifts, to meet the needs of the City. 

Please note that part time hours that would be considered ideally will be for the weekends and late/evening shifts starting at 1pm. Also for the 2 weeks induction/ training period, we need people to commit to full time hours starting from 8am - 5pm. 

You will need to at least hold a Restricted Driver's licence to be considered. 

We will give you: in-depth training and access to gain qualifications, a uniform, technology to enable you to do your role well, friendly banter and table tennis competitions when you come back into the office!

Key things to be successful in this role are: 

  • natural ability to build rapport with customers good physical fitness with the ability to walk long distances (up to 20km a day), rain, hail or shine

  • flexibility and able to deal with difficult customers and situations high energy and a positive attitude towards the public
  • good problem-solving skills
  • good written and numeracy skills
  • being comfortable with and adaptable to modern communication technologies
  • ability to work without direct supervision team orientation
