Job Description

What is the role?

We have an opening for someone who is enthusiastic, passionate and with a thirst to learn and grow with our hands-on Services team to undertake inspection and sampling activities in Christchurch.

We conduct our work on third party client warehouse sites in the Airport area.  The work involves bending and lifting of boxes. In short, the various activities include:

  • Quality Assessor – inspects domestic and imported fresh food items against quality specifications.
  • Fresh Produce Sample Collector – collects fresh food items available for sale on the domestic market for dispatch to the laboratory.
  • Summer Season Team Leader – guides the Christchurch summer season operations in conjunction with Auckland.
  • Export Endpoint Inspection – inspects fresh food items for export against phytosanitary specifications.

A degree of flexibility is needed due to import and export timelines.  Typically, on average 4 hours per week throughout the year and 20+ hours per week over summer (mid-December – early-Feb).

Who are we?

We offer value adding Produce Inspection, Export Certification, Post-harvest and Project Management services to businesses and organisations at all points of the fresh produce and food value chains.

Our team is professional in its service delivery to clients, relaxed in its outlook on life and multinational in its make-up.

Applicants will ideally have:

  • A mature can-do attitude with a horticultural or similar science background, either through study or work experience.
  • An interest in insects and plant disease.
  • Sound and consistent judgement against standard criteria and an ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication both written and spoken.
  • Confidence using iPads for reporting (or willing to learn).

New Zealand Residency or valid NZ Work Permit is essential to apply for this position (Proof is required).

In addition, a full driver’s licence and own transport is vital to this role.

You will receive

  • On the job training to understand our Operating Procedures.
  • Work as part of a small team to meet client requirements where daily variation is guaranteed.
  • Experience within a company that is experiencing growth in the export sector.
