Job Description

This is a great opportunity for Class 2 or 3 Marine Engineer, Mechanical Fitter or Industrial Electrician to get involved in a large scale project. Take a step back off the tools into a process health and safety role.

  • Up to 12 months contract (PAYE or GST) offering excellent rate + OT rate
  • Hands off role with safety and process focus with training provided
  • Devonport location

About the role:
This is an opportunity to work on a large vessel refurbishment project as part of our client's well-organised team. Use your marine engineering or electrical knowledge to ensure safe systems of work (SSOW) are in place and being followed for authorized work onboard vessels.

This will include working closely with Naval personnel and third party Contractors to:

  • Review work orders (JSEA's) to ensure the scope is clear and sufficient to enable hazards, controls and isolation requirements to be identified.
  • Witness and verify isolations (prove/test/prove).
  • Co-ordinate and verify the Lock Out Tag Out process.
  • Insure all authorized work has completed paperwork and testing before commencing.
  • Monitor ongoing work for any unforeseen risks or hazards.

This role will start immediately and run for up to 12 months. The work hours are Monday-Friday 7.00am to 3.30pm.

Skills + Experience:
For this role you will need:

  • A Trade Qualification in Marine/Mechanical Engineering or Electrical
  • At least 3 years New Zealand industry work experience - in Marine or Mechanical Fitting or as an Industrial Electrical (with marine experience)
  • Good knowledge of your trade and working to best practice 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • The ability to work as part of a team, but also unsupervised
  • A clean criminal record

Pay + Benefits:

  • A competitive rate is offered for either PAYE or GST contractors, between $45-$60 per hour - dependant on pay type (PAYE/GST) and your skills and experience

Our client is a stable, essential service business who is the major provider of engineering services to the marine industry in NZ, operating at NZ’s largest dry dock. They undertake major projects for the refurbishment of Naval vessels and offer a range of short and long term project based contracts.
