Ko te tūranga mahi | About the role

As a Senior Accountant at Public Trust, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the legacies of New Zealanders by providing expert accounting and tax services for Estates, Trusts, PA/PPPRs, and Charities. You will collaborate with Trustees to deliver professional services and exceptional customer experiences. Your expertise will also help develop and mentor other accountants within the team. This role involves preparing financial accounts, offering technical tax advice, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

You are a self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with extensive experience in handling accounting and tax matters. You thrive on challenges and are a natural problem solver. Your strong communication skills enable you to build effective relationships with stakeholders.

  • You hold a tertiary qualification in accountancy, taxation, commerce, or a related field.
  • You are possibly a chartered accountant
  • It would be great if you had experience in Trust accounting
  • You excel at prioritising tasks and meeting targets
  • Your interpersonal skills are strong, allowing you to build professional relationships
  • You have experience in Tier 3 & above charity accounting.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and motivate others.

Success as a Senior Accountant means providing accurate and understandable technical guidance to Trustees, completing complex accounting calculations for distributions, and meeting or exceeding service level agreements (SLAs). You will respond to queries promptly, build positive relationships with internal and external partners, share your knowledge with colleagues, and deliver efficient services to customers.

  • You provide professional accounting and tax advice to Trustees
  • You complete complex accounting deficiency calculations for distributions
  • You meet or exceed SLA when completing job referrals
  • You share knowledge and provide support to accountants
  • You deliver efficient and effective services for customers
  • You capture learnings to inform improvements in accounting practices
  • You achieve or exceed weekly targets
  • You are a collaborative and supportive team member
