IHC is New Zealand's leading provider of services for people with intellectual disabilities. Our Mission is at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to supporting people with intellectual disabilities to lead satisfying lives in the community.

Our staff are dedicated and hardworking and every team member plays an important part in helping people with intellectual disability to achieve greater independence. A career with IHC can be very rewarding and fulfilling, but at times, like most jobs, it can have its challenges. We are focused on making sure that our staff receive the support that they need to do their jobs and that they have a healthy and safe work environment.

At IHC we've held on very strongly to our values and throughout the history of our organisation. We are proud of our values. We've stood on national and international stages and stated our values. Our work reflects our values, such as fighting to close institutions, lobbying government for services, working for families, and providing support to people to be part of their communities so they have a place to belong.

IHC believes people with an intellectual disability have at the right to:

  • Be treated with respect and dignity
  • Have a say in their own lives
  • Live, learn, work and enjoy life as part of the community
  • Have support that meets their goals and aspirations
  • Be part of a family
  • IHC supports the principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi
