Project Capability and Delivery Manager | Auckland

Job Description

Project Capability & Delivery Manager

  • Based in Highbrook, East Tamaki with work from home flex – 3 days office
  • Lead and shape project management capability across NZ Post, influencing teams and driving change
  • Play a hands-on role in delivering complex, high-impact projects while coaching and mentoring others

Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

Projects big and small touch every corner of NZ Post, and not everyone leading them has “project manager” in their job title. That's where you come in.

As our Project Capability & Delivery Manager, you'll play a key role in lifting confidence, consistency, and delivery capability across the business. You'll support operational leaders who find themselves stepping into project delivery, coach experienced project managers to continually strengthen their practice, and take a pragmatic approach to selecting the right delivery model for the work at hand. While we're on an agile journey, a strong understanding of agile, waterfall, and hybrid approaches will be important as we evolve how we deliver change.

This role is about creating a Centre of Excellence for project management. From setting clear standards and practical tools, to rolling up your sleeves and leading the early stages of delivery, you'll make sure projects are set up for success and that our investment in change delivers real value.

 You'll do that by:

  • Building and embedding consistent project management standards across the enterprise
  • Providing hands-on coaching, mentoring, and training for leaders and teams at all levels
  • Leading and supporting delivery of initiatives, especially in their early stages, and manage projects yourself
  • Championing governance and quality, ensuring projects stay on track and deliver what they promise
  • Growing strong relationships and networks across the business, fostering a connected and confident project community
  • Keeping an eye on industry trends and bring fresh thinking to how we manage change

Mōu - About you

You're the kind of person who can steady the ship and lift the sails at the same time.  You'll be confident in your own delivery capability, being a seasoned professional, but your passion will be about helping others grow. You've built your career delivering complex projects in large organisations and now get just as much satisfaction from coaching others as you do from running a programme yourself.

You'll combine that with:

  • Experience leading big, high-stakes projects in complex environments, with a clear understanding of what it takes to get them across the line
  • The ability to flex between agile and waterfall, applying whatever works best for the context rather than sticking rigidly to theory
  • Strong leadership experience, where you set the tone for how things get done. Servant leadership comes naturally to you and you role-model the behaviours you expect from others, providing steady support as a part of the GM's leadership team
  • A pragmatic, decisive approach. You balance empathy with clarity and aren't afraid to hold the line when it's needed
  • Above all, a drive to leave things better than you found them.  Shaping not only the projects we deliver, but also the people who deliver them
