Shepherd General for Cattle and Sheep finishing operation

Puketotara Station

Situated in North Waikato, 20 minutes north west from Huntly in the Ruawaro area and 50 minutes from Hamilton.

Puketotara Station is 1188ha of which 950 Hectares is approximately the grazing platform made up of productive flats to rolling and some steeper hill country and native bush out the back. The main focus is finishing livestock to their potential weights with using an all grass-based system.

We are looking for a bright enthusiastic person to become part of our team at Puketotara Station.

We run an intensive bull grazing operation and do winter lambs and some cropping depending on the season. The farm is divided up into blocks and there is an opportunity to run one or part of one of the blocks depending on experience. Stock is rotated regularly which requires good stockperson skills, an eye for detail and good record keeping. Depending on experience there is an opportunity for this person to also run Lamb trading operation over winter.

There is also general farm maintenance work required which involves new and old fencing, maintaining water systems, tractor driving and digger work depending on experience. Transport on farm is quad bike and housing is available.

The successful applicant will need:

• Good stock handling skills, competency when working with stock in the yards as well as paddock shifts.
• Two working dogs are desirable but not essential.
• An ability to carry out a high standard of fencing and water maintenance and/or improving farm infrastructure.
• An ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
• Have competent skills when riding a quad bike and driving a tractor.
• Have a positive attitude, honest, reliable, self-motivated, shows initiative and have a good level of communication.
• Have awareness of good health and safety practices.
