Job Description – Casual Maintenance Worker (On-Call)

Position Title: Casual Maintenance Worker
Location: Christchurch
Reports To: General Manager
Employment Type: Casual, on call

Position Purpose
To provide practical, hands-on maintenance and repair services across six residential homes, ensuring safe, comfortable, and well-maintained living environments for the people we support.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and repairs, including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical work
• Install items such as TVs, shelving, and other fixtures in the people we support’s rooms
• Replace light bulbs, fix door handles, and other small household repairs
• Maintain outdoor areas, including trimming shrubs and general tidy-up
• Collect and remove rubbish and recycling from sites
• Conduct routine property checks and preventative maintenance
• Support with vehicle checks, maintenance, and warrants as required
• Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner
• Ensure all work complies with health and safety standards
• Maintain accurate records of work completed
• Other duties as may be reasonably required

Person Specification

• Proven experience in general maintenance or handyman work
• Practical skills across a wide range of trades
• Reliable, flexible, and able to work independently
• Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence
• Must have own reliable vehicle and tools

Desirable

• Trade qualification or relevant certifications
• Experience in residential care or similar environments
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations

Working Conditions
