Financial Accountant - 12 Month Fixed Term

We are looking for a Financial Accountant to cover a 12 Month Parental leave cover. This is a hands-on role where you will play a key part in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and ensuring smooth month end processes. You will take ownership of key balance sheet areas and become a trusted expert in your space.

You will also gain valuable exposure to group consolidation, audit processes and NZ IFRS reporting, providing a strong pathway into more senior financial accounting roles. 

You will be responsible for:

  • Preparing accurate month end journals and completing balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring reconciling items are resolved promptly
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of accounting standards and applying Group accounting policies consistently
  • Supporting the preparation of financial statements for the Group and subsidiaries
  • Assisting with half year and year end audit processes
  • Working closely with stakeholders across Finance to ensure data quality and consistent accounting treatment
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and strengthen controls

You are a qualified accountant, who enjoys getting into the detail while still understanding how the numbers connect to the bigger commercial picture.

You take pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work, meeting deadlines and following things through properly. You are comfortable working across systems and with stakeholders, and you understand the important role strong financial reporting plays in good business decision making.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • 3 to 4 years' experience in an accounting role within a large corporate environment or a reputable CA firm
  • A strong understanding of NZ IFRS, generally accepted accounting practice and experience preparing compliant financial statements
  • Solid balance sheet experience, including preparing and reviewing reconciliations and resolving variances
  • Well developed analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues and strengthen processes
  • A proactive ownership mindset, meeting deadlines, escalating risks early and seeing work through to completion
  • Clear and confident communication skills, along with strong Excel capability and exposure to integrated finance systems
