Cyber Security Engineer

  • Shape and strengthen NZ Post's cyber defence across a complex environment
  • Work hands-on and collaborate with our security providers and vendors, leveraging modern security tools, cloud platforms, and threat intelligence

  • Based in Auckland (Highbrook, East Tamaki) or Wellington (CBD) with hybrid working

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

As a Cyber Security Engineer, you'll sit on the front line of NZ Post's cyber defence, helping protect the systems and information that keep Aotearoa connected.  You'll design, implement and continuously improve security controls, ensuring our platforms remain resilient in an evolving threat landscape.

This is a varied role where you'll balance BAU improvements with strategic initiatives, working across a broad technology ecosystem.  You'll collaborate closely with internal teams and partners, playing a key role in enhancing our security posture and embedding best practice across the business.

You'll achieve that by:

  • Designing, implementing and improving cyber security controls and platforms
  • Monitoring and enhancing security tooling to ensure effectiveness and resilience
  • Supporting incident response, investigations and root cause analysis
  • Leading small to medium security projects and tool deployments
  • Providing technical guidance across projects and SDLC activities
  • Working with vendors and partners to deliver strong security outcomes

You're a hands-on Cyber Security Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and working across a diverse technology landscape.  You bring strong technical capability, a curious mindset, and the confidence to engage with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver practical, effective security outcomes.

You have a strong foundation in core internet and enterprise technologies, with the ability to deeply understand how systems communicate and where vulnerabilities may exist.  Your expertise across Microsoft security and identity capabilities ensures you can effectively secure modern environments.

You're someone who takes ownership, communicates clearly, and stays calm under pressure. You're motivated to continuously improve, keeping up with evolving threats and finding better ways to protect systems and data.

You'll combine that with

  • Solid understanding of internet technologies such as DNS, proxies, web and email services
  • Strong knowledge of firewalls, web applications and VPN access patterns
  • Experience working with Microsoft security stack, including privileged access
  • Hands-on experience with security tools such as SIEM and IAM
  • Ability to analyse risks, vulnerabilities and threat patterns
  • A proactive, self-driven approach with a focus on continuous improvement
