Maintenance and Customer Service, Part-Time (Petone)

$32.00 - $35.00 hourly

Job Description

StoreStuff Self Storage is a locally owned self storage facility on Nevis Street in Petone, behind Briscoes and Rebel Sport, opposite the train station. Around 430 indoor units across two buildings, plus a small retail shop selling boxes and packing supplies.

We are looking for someone who spent their working life on the tools and isn't ready to hang them up completely. If you have wound down the business or finished up on the sites but still want steady, practical part time work, this role will suit you.

The work is roughly half and half:

  • Maintenance: painting, repairs, general upkeep and a bit of light building work across our two buildings. Tools provided.
  • Customer service: helping customers at reception, showing them through storage units, and selling boxes and packing supplies. Customers sign up in-store and online.

Hours and pay

  • Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday 9am to 4pm, Monday 9am to 5pm
  • 23 hours a week, the same three days every week (Negotiable)
  • $32-$35 per hour
  • No evenings, no Sundays, closed public holidays plus Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve
  • Extra days come up regularly, covering leave and the weeks the owner is off site, always arranged with advance notice, so some flexibility beyond the three days is needed

What we are looking for

  • A background in carpentry, painting, building, property maintenance or caretaking
  • Confident with power tools and comfortable working unsupervised, as you will often be the only person on site
  • Happy to quickly stop a job when a customer phones that they are at reception
  • Basic computer confidence. Bookings and customers are managed through our online system and we will train you on it. Bonus points if you have used a booking or customer system before
  • Available Saturdays. This is a core part of the role
  • A full driver licence
  • Preference for applicants in Petone or the Hutt Valley

How it works

We do a paid trial shift so you can see the place and the work before either of us commits. From there it's a straightforward process: a phone call, a look around the site, references and a record check (the role holds keys), then a written employment agreement with time to get advice before signing.

How to apply

A CV is appreciated but not necessary. Email tom@storestuff.co.nz with a short note on what you used to do and what you have worked on.
