Are you an experienced accounting professional looking to join a large, dynamic New Zealand retail business? Harvey Norman is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team.

Reporting to the Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing, reconciliation and reporting of financial information across the business. About the Role

As an Assistant Accountant, you'll be responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial records and supporting month-end and year-end reporting processes. This role requires strong analytical skills, a high level of accuracy and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain & reconcile general ledger accounts, including standing journals, gift cards, online payments, outgoings & sundry debtors.
• Perform monthly and annual reconciliations, including property and leasing outgoings.
• Process rent, rates and outgoing allocation cycles accurately and within required time frames.
• Reconcile prepayments for property expenses, new store openings and other business costs.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly management reports and annual financial statements.
• Produce ad hoc financial reports and analysis as required.
• Respond to financial queries and support the wider Finance team during reporting periods.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and systems.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong accounting background, excellent numerical ability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

We're looking for someone who has:

• At least 3 years' accounting experience within a medium to large organisation.
• Experience processing and reconciling general ledger accounts.
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong mathematical and analytical capabilities.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• The ability to manage deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
• A positive, adaptable and team-focused attitude.

Highly regarded:

• Experience within a large retail or multi-site business environment.
• A tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related discipline.
