Two Roles: Live-In Registered Nurse and a Companion

Job Description

We are looking for two people to share care for our lovely Client. One needs to be a kind-hearted Registered Nurse, and the other a Companion, for a Live-In position in Auckland or The Coromandel (location to be determined ASAP) for approximately 6 months.

This is a two person role; one being a Registered Nurse and the other, a Companion. So if you are in a couple, it could be an employment opportunity for both people.

Our client, a lovely Gentleman, living with Dementia, wants to live his life in the place he loves best - close to family and friends. At this stage, that may be in either Auckland's Bays (St Heliers, Kohimarama, Mission Bay) or at the family home in Pauanui.

Our Client is an independent man who enjoys cooking (and eats well when someone’s around to remind him not to skip meals!).

He has experienced progressive short-term memory loss. He is still physically capable and independent with dressing and daily routines. Sadly his wife of 60 years passed away earlier this year and the family want to ensure that he remains in his local community where he is comfortable and secure.

He’s spent much of his life out on the water boating and fishing, and still loves watching motorsports and rugby.

He has a large family based predominantly in Auckland who visit as often as possible.

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse, your role will include greater responsibilities around personal cares if required on occasion, taking care of any minor incidents that may occur that don't necessarily require hospitalisation; and the knowledge of when to involve external healthcare services.

The shared responsibilities (with the Companion) will include helping with things like grocery shopping, sharing meals, light household tasks, and—most importantly—offering great company and conversation.

Key activities include:

• Meaningful conversation and connection

• Playing games, doing puzzles, gentle activities

• Coffee outings and short trips

• Encouragement and positive social interaction including gentle walks

• Being a calm, reassuring presence

• Grocery shopping, meals and light housework

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

• Kind, patient, and reliable

• Comfortable supporting someone experiencing memory loss

• Warm, upbeat, and able to gently redirect when needed

• A confident communicator who enjoys genuine conversation

• Experienced in healthcare, especially Memory Care.
