Trade Sales Assistant (Tauranga)

It's an exciting time to join NZ Safety Blackwoods! We're looking for a Trade Sales Assistant to join our friendly and hardworking team at our Tauranga Trade Centre.

Our focus is on delivering excellence in every customer interaction and building strong relationships with the customers who choose to do business with us. We're looking for someone who is passionate about customer service, enjoys building genuine connections, and wants to be part of a team committed to delivering an outstanding customer experience.

This is a part-time position working 23 hours per week, including Saturdays from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Flexibility to work additional hours from time to time to cover leave or support business needs would be an advantage.

Reporting to the Trade Centre Manager, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with customers, solving problems, and contributing to a busy trade-focused environment.

Are you an experienced salesperson who loves helping customers find the right products and solutions for the job? Knowledge of PPE, safety products, tools, hardware, industrial supplies or workwear would be highly regarded.

While previous trade industry experience is advantageous, we are equally interested in people with a positive attitude, strong customer service skills, and a willingness to learn. If you're motivated, enjoy working with customers, and are keen to develop your product knowledge, we'd love to hear from you.

This isn't your standard sales role. It's varied, hands-on and rewarding, offering a mix of sales, customer service, stock management and store operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Be the first point of contact for customers visiting the Trade Centre.
• Build strong customer relationships by understanding needs and providing tailored product and service solutions.
• Deliver an exceptional customer experience that drives sales and customer loyalty.
• Promote and upsell our extensive range of products and services.
• Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently.
• Support store presentation, merchandising standards and promotional displays.
• Replenish stock and maintain appropriate stock levels.
• Assist with receipting, packing and dispatching incoming and outgoing goods.
• Maintain accurate inventory and contribute to the smooth operation of the Trade Centre.
• Work collaboratively with the wider team to achieve sales and service objectives.

Our Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience in retail, trade sales, customer service or a similar environment.
• Passionate about delivering excellent customer service.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-first mindset.
• Proven ability to build rapport and develop lasting customer relationships.
• Sales-focused with the ability to identify opportunities and provide solutions.
• A proactive, positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and undertaking some manual handling tasks.
• Confident using point-of-sale systems, Microsoft Outlook and other computer-based systems.
• Reliable, adaptable and a strong team player.
• Experience within the trade, industrial, safety or hardware sectors is advantageous but not essential, as full product training will be provided.
